Protest Disputes Judiciary Committee Report 2023

Welcome to the conclusion of the 2023 Season.

Over the past year, the Protest Disputes Judiciary Committee (PDJC) has diligently monitored the rise in off-field misconduct, meticulously documented by our dedicated referees. As the PDJC Officer, I've been entrusted with the responsibility of scrutinizing reports, guiding referees, and offering counsel during our weekly PDJC board meetings.

We've noticed a troubling surge in undesirable behaviour, including verbal abuse, physical altercations, unsportsmanlike conduct, and pitch invasions. These incidents not only compromise the game's integrity but also jeopardize the safety of everyone involved, especially our match officials.

To address this issue effectively, the PDJC has implemented various strategies to foster a culture of respect and fair play within the Southern Districts Soccer Referees Association (SDSFA).

Our committee has strengthened the existing disciplinary procedures, ensuring swift and decisive actions against offenders. Stricter penalties, including suspensions and fines, have been imposed on those found guilty of off-field misconduct. Additionally, teams now face point deductions for pitch invasion incidents, a measure aimed at preserving the integrity of the game.

The PDJC has collaborated closely with match commissioners, enhancing efficiency and transparency in the verification of match sheets and player registrations. This proactive approach has significantly contributed to curbing poor behaviour on and off the field.

Throughout the year, the PDJC and Southern Districts Referees have tirelessly worked to address these challenges. Your continued reporting, vigilance, and engagement with club and team officials have played a vital role in upholding the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship in soccer.

As we approach the 2024 season, we anticipate new challenges that require our collective effort to overcome. I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your dedicated service in 2023. Take this break to cherish moments with your families, enjoy the holiday season, and I eagerly look forward to seeing you all in 2024.
